    1. It’s all too complex to explain here, layers and layers of ownership and jurisdictions, types of water and sources, etc.

    2. In the absence of a water permitting system, I don’t understand how the county can impose a moratorium.

That said, Indiana’s lack of a water policy leads to complex and convoluted situations like this.

    1. I believe the water belongs to the entire good of the state to be used as needed for the advancement of the state as a whole. The waters doesn’t just belong to the county alone. At least that’s the argument the state is making

  1. “legislation that would require groundwater withdrawals of at least 10 million gallons of water per day to receive prior approval through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.” – In a perfect world this would happen, research and monitoring conducted, and timely and reasonable compensation would occur if wells failed due to water level decline. Unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world.

  2. Other States and counties depend on the Teays Wabash. I don’t believe there should be any Radial Wells on any aquifer as they can be damaged. Once damaged they cannot be fixed. We are also concerned about the chemical sludge Eli Lilly left us in Shadeland. With enough pull or pressure it can contaminate the Teays as it did all the wells n homes in that area. They want to install 2 Radial Wells which allow maximum extraction. It also keeps the amounts hidden. With their tests it affected 80 wells from 10 miles away. Even our Purdue Professors are concerned. They could withdraw as much as they wanted n we’d never know. At 2 billion dollars that is an enormous risk. Farms were affected by this test as well. You know once here they would never stop taking the water no matter how many were affected. Other states need to be concerned as well. Indiana needs water protection laws before the return of Water Wars.
