  1. Indiana soils grow the best tasting tomatoes in the world. Red Gold cans the Indiana and Ohio grown tomatoes and they are the best you can get, California is second, and maybe Florida is third. Mexico tomatoes look good but lack in flavor, although they do grow year around and keep our desire for Indiana grown tomatoes alive.

    1. 100%, but Indiana, California and Florida can’t ramp up production over night. Takes years of land prep and planning.

    2. Indiana has nowhere near the capacity to meet domestic demand, let alone international demand for tomatoes. Ones grown on small farms are great, but the mass produced ones, like the ones from Florida and California are not great.

Glad to buy Indiana tomatoes at farmers markets (or any small farms tomatoes), or in the store when available, but otherwise I will buy Mexican tomatoes over US tomatoes, which are usually the mass-produced ones from Florida or California. They can put on a 50% tariff for all I care, it still is worth it to buy the superior product. And, that is how most consumers operate, they will pay more for better, or just not buy them.
