Community Physician Network added two pulmonologists at the Community South Hospital medical offices. Dr. Sultan Niazi and Dr. Faheem Abbasi provide care for patients with sleep, lung and respiratory-tract issues. Their practice is based at Community Hospital South. Niazi did his medical training at Rawalpindi Medical School in Pakistan. Abbasi earned his medical degree from Aga Khan University in Pakistan.

Dr. Larissa Dimitrov, an internist, has joined St. Francis Medical Group Geriatric Medicine. She was an attending physician at Advanced Healthcare Associates of Indianapolis and earned her medical degree at the Medical University of Sofia in Bulgaria.

St. Vincent Health named Gary Fammartino as the administrator of St. Vincent Fishers Hospital, beginning in February. The new hospital will open in 2013 as an expansion of the medical office building and emergency department St. Vincent operates in Fishers. Since 2008, Fammartino has been the St. Vincent system’s executive of ambulatory and outpatient services. Fammartino holds degrees in education, respiratory science and business administration from Youngstown State University.

Dr. Paul Broderick, the owner of Central Indiana Proctology in Martinsville, has joined St. Francis Medical Group. Broderick, who is the former chief of surgery at Indiana University Health Morgan Hospital, has practiced in Martinsville since 1995. He received a bachelor's degree from Ball State University and did his medical training at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Daniel B. Woloszyn has been named CEO of the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana by its joint owners, Indiana University Health and St. Vincent Health. Woloszyn will take over for Sidney Norton, the chief financial officer for Rehabilitation Hospital, who has been serving as RHI’s interim CEO since September 2010. Woloszyn spent the past eight years as CEO of Van Matre HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Rockford, Ill. Woloszyn holds doctorates in clinical and health psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago.

Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman PC hired three new associate attorneys in its Indianapolis office. Geoffrey Davis focuses his litigation practice in defending physicians, hospitals and dentists.  He graduated from Butler University in 1999 and earned his law degree from the University of Toledo in 2005. Katie Miller focuses on corporate deals, physician integration and intellectual property issues. She graduated from Purdue University in 2008 and from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 2011. Chad Wilson, a licensed physical therapist, focuses on hospital and physician contracts. He received all his degrees from Indiana University.

Dr. Ryan R. Lacy has established a practice with Martinsville Family & Internal Medicine with St. Francis Medical Group, the second physician in St. Francis’ new Martinsville medical office. Lacy holds a bachelor’s in biology and a master’s in physiology, both from IUPUI. He did his medical training at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Jeff Sperring, chief medical officer of Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health, has been named the hospital’s president and CEO. Riley was left with a sudden leadership vacuum in late spring after CEO Dan Fink resigned, followed three weeks later by the departure of Chief Operating Officer Brett Lee to another hospital. Since then, Riley’s chief nursing officer, Marilyn Cox, has been serving as interim CEO. She will return to her role in nursing administration. Sperring graduated from Emory University in Atlanta and did his medical training at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. David Roodman has been named director of hematology oncology at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. He also will begin Nov. 15 as a professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Four researchers from his bone disease lab at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine will move with him. Over the past 10 years, Roodman has received significant financial support for his research, including more than $13.2 million in grant funding from the National Institutes of Health. He was recruited to IU through a physician scientist initiative funded by a $60 million grant from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc.

Dr. Justin Smith has joined the St. Vincent Physician Network in Fishers. He offers primary care to all ages and has a special interest in sports medicine and preventive care.  Smith has a bachelor’s degree from Butler University and did his medical training at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Krystal L. Cole, a certified physician’s assistant, has joined Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons with St. Francis Medical Group. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Indiana University and did her physician assistant studies at Western University of Health Sciences in California.

Nicole G. Barnes, a registered dietitian, has been appointed clinical nutrition manager for Franciscan St. Francis Health. Since 2006, she has served as a clinical dietitian for the hospital system. Barnes received a master’s degree in dietetics at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. She also holds a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Vijay Udyavar Rao has joined St. Francis Medical Group Indiana Heart Physicians. Rao most recently served as clinical instructor in cardiology at the University of California-San Francisco and has also served as a research fellow with California-based biotech firm Genentech Inc. Rao earned a bachelor’s in biology from DePauw University and his medical degree and doctorate at the Medical University of South Carolina.

The Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center added two new researchers: Amber Mosley uses protein mass spectrometry to study gene expression levels; Pierrick Fournier studies the role of the immune system in bone cancers.

Indianapolis-based Senex Services Corp. has hired Brose McVey as vice president of business development. The former political aide and candidate for Congress had been consulting for Senex before his hiring. Senex buys unpaid hospital debts from patients and tries to collect them.

She previously worked for Indianapolis-based benefits consultancy First Person Benefit Advisors, Community Health Network’s Infinity Employer Health Solutions and health insurer WellPoint Inc. RepuCare and its parent company, RepuCare Inc., provide medical staffing and on-site health care services.

Dr. Charles E. Kinsella  has joined St. Francis Medical Group and established a practice with the newly formed Pulmonary & Sleep Specialists in Greenwood. Kinsella most recently was associated with Southside Pulmonary and Sleep Consultants in Greenwood.

Johnson Memorial Hospital named Steve Jarosinski chief officer of physician practices, managing the hospital’s employed physicians. He previously served as the hospital’s vice president of clinical operations.

Johnson Memorial named Richard Kester its new director of specialty ancillary services. He previously served as vice president of clinical services at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

Community Health Network appointed registered nurse Cindy Adams its chief nursing officer, overseeing 3,000 nurses. On Feb. 26, Adams will replace Jan Bingle, who is retiring after 27 years at Community. Adams holds degrees from Ball State and Indiana universities. She resides in Shelbyville.

Dr. Marc Overhage is leaving Indianapolis-based Indiana Health Information Exchange Inc. to become chief medical informatics officer of Siemens, a German company with its U.S. health services business unit based in Pennsylvania. Until earlier this year, Overhage was CEO of the exchange, but stepped down and was replaced by local software entrepreneur Harold Apple.

Dr. Isaac J. Myers II will become president of St. Francis Medical Group on Feb. 28. Myers was previously vice president of clinical and business integration at Wishard Health Services. From 1998 to 2006, Myers was vice president of medical affairs for Advantage Health Solutions, a health insurer in Indianapolis. A New York City native, Myers earned his medical degree from Wayne State School of Medicine and performed his residency in family medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. James L. Gahimer has established a practice with the newly created Center Grove Internal Medicine in Greenwood, which is part of the St. Francis Medical Group. Gahimer previously worked as a drug safety consultant with T.L. Care Corp in Beech Grove, and before that was a medical adviser in global product safety at Eli Lilly and Co.

Katz, Sapper & Miller LLP hired Colin Gulledge as a director in its health care resources group, helping hospitals and health systems improve reimbursement, compliance and coding practices. Gulledge has a bachelor’s degree in public health administration from Indiana University and an MBA from Butler University.

Dr. Smriti Banthia has joined Franciscan St. Francis Medical Group Indiana Heart Physicians after completing a fellowship at Northwestern University. She holds a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
 
Pierceton-based Paragon Medical has hired Michael Gosmeyer as chief compliance officer. Gosmeyer joins Paragon after serving as director of regulatory affairs at Batesville-based Hill-Rom Holdings Inc., a maker of hospital equipment.

Robin Bellinger has joined Riley Children’s Foundation as chief development officer. Bellinger spent the past eight years at Purdue University, where she served as associate vice president of advancement, a senior director of development and interim vice president of advancement.

The Indiana Health Information Exchange named Harold Apple its new president and CEO, replacing Dr. Marc Overhage. Overhage will stay on as chief strategic officer and national policy adviser. Apple, 65, founded Indianapolis-based software firm Vector Technologies Inc., which he sold to a U.S. subsidiary of India-based Mastek in July 2007.

Dr. Heather Maria Greist, an internist, has established a practice with St. Francis Medical Group Rheumatology & Osteoporosis Specialists, located on the St. Francis Hospital-Indianapolis campus. Greist earned her medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine; she also holds degrees from Purdue University and Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Robert Prince, an anesthesiologist, has joined the St. Francis Medical Group Spine Specialists, located on the St. Francis-Indianapolis campus. He is the former chief of the Department of Anesthesia and Pain at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital (Virginia) and at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, Ill.

Dr. Cindy De Neira has established a practice with St. Francis Medical Group Plainfield Family Medicine. De Neira earned a doctorate in osteopathic medicine at Des Moines University in Iowa. She also holds degrees in nutrition and chemistry from the University of Florida.

Timothy Gee has been appointed director of cardiovascular practices for St. Francis Medical Group. In that role, Gee will oversee operations at Indiana Heart Physicians and Vascular Surgeons. Previously, he was a business consultant for Indianapolis Medical Management.

TriMedX, a technology-management firm for hospitals, has hired Tom Vorpahl as chief operating officer. For the past eight years, Vorpahl worked at Philips North America, most recently as vice president of sales and business development. Vorpahl holds bachelor's degrees in biology and medical science from the University of Wisconsin. TriMedX is an Indianapolis-based subsidiary of the Ascension Health hospital system.

Batesville-bsed Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. has appointed Mark Guinan chief financial officer, beginning Dec. 13. Guinan is currently chief procurement officer for New Jersey-based Johnson & Johnson. Guinan has an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the Olin Graduate School of Management at Washington University. Before joining Johnson & Johnson, he worked for Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble. Guinan succeeds Greg Miller, who has been Hill-Rom's CFO since 2005.

Carmel-based CNO Financial Group Inc. has hired James S. Sawaya as vice president of claims. Sawaya comes from Wisconsin-based HealthEOS by Multiplan Inc., where he served as senior vice president for claim operations, client services, sales and customer service. Sawaya previously worked for UnitedHealthcare and Midwest Security Insurance Cos.

Dr. Charles E. Hughes and Dr. Wayne Lee have joined the St. Francis Medical Group. Their practice, the Indianapolis Institute for Plastic Surgery, is located at 8051 S. Emerson Ave. on the St. Francis Hospital-Indianapolis campus.
