Cutco Cutlery, known for its in-home sales demonstrations by college students, plans to open a retail store in the Clearwater Springs Shopping Center at 82nd Street and Allisonville Road. The 2,600-square-foot store is just the third for Olean, NY-based Cutco, which has other locations in Erie, Pa. and Okemos, Mich. The company is expanding its retail footprint to introduce an expanded product line and reconnect with existing customers. The shop, scheduled to open this month, also will serve as a training facility for Cutco's direct sales division, Vector Marketing. - Performance Bicycle, the nation's largest specialty bike retailer, is opening a new store near Greenwood at the northwest corner of U.S. 31 and County Line Road. The shop at 8830 U.S. 31 South is scheduled to open April 8. The Chapel Hill, N.C.-based chain has more than 100 locations and aims to be a "friendly one-stop shop for all levels of cyclists."
- Sensu, a huge new Asian-fusion restaurant, sushi bar and nightclub, has opened in the former home of Have A Nice Day Cafe. The 16,500-square-foot restaurant at 225 S. Meridian St. is owned by Jeremiah Hamman, whose Epic Hospitality Group also owns Mo's A Place for Steaks. Menu offerings include rock shrimp tempura, baked sea bass hand rolls, crab-shitake crusted filet mignon, black cod with miso and lobster tacos.
- Marshalls is opening two new stores in former A.J. Wright locations in Southern Plaza and Keystone Plaza. The off-price retailer, which is part of Framingham, Mass.-based TJX Companies Inc., is taking 18,500 square feet at 4200 S. East St. and 19,900 square feet at 5302 Keystone Ave. Grand openings are scheduled for March 31. The chain has existing stores in Indianapolis, Nora, Avon and Carmel.
- Avec Moi, a carryout comfort-food restaurant, is slated to open in May at the corner of 62nd Street and College Avenue. The space in the 1928 building at 701 E. 62nd St. formerly was home to a massage center. Specialties of owner Kris Parmelee include turkey meatloaf, ribs, butternut squash lasagna and sugar cookies. Parmelee is expanding a business she started at Indy's Kitchen, a commercial kitchen that rents space by the hour to food-focused entrepreneurs.
