A man was shot to death Tuesday shortly before 10 p.m. at the Lake Marina Apartments in the 2200 block of Harbor Drive, near East 21st Street and Mitthoeffer Road. Indianapolis police say the man suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene. The victim’s identity was being withheld until family could be notified.
Police shot and killed an armed burglary suspect Tuesday night in Plainfield. The shooting took place about 9:30 in the Courtyards at White Lick neighborhood after a person hiding in the home reported a burglary in progress. When police arrived, the suspect raised a gun toward an officer, who shot the man. Another suspected burglar was taken into custody. Three residents in the home were unharmed.
An employee at the Ricker’s BP gas station at West 38th Street and High School Road was fatally shot during a robbery about 3 a.m. Wednesday. Clerk Elvalide Ndiaye, 39, of Indianapolis died at Wishard Memorial Hospital shortly after the incident. Indianapolis police say Larry Johnson, 27, has been arrested for slashing two people with a knife in unprovoked attacks downtown early Monday. An Indianapolis man pleaded guilty Monday to fatally beating his former girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter. Jose Cruz, 22, is to be sentenced Oct. 16. His plea deal calls for him to receive a sentence of 75 years in prison. Police say they found victim Carmen Ellis covered with bruises in August 2012 inside her mother’s apartment. The girl’s mother, Samantha Ellis, awaits trial on a charge of neglect for leaving her daughter with Cruz.
An Indianapolis police officer has been released from the hospital after being shot in the leg Tuesday morning while responding to a disturbance at an apartment complex. Gregory Stevens was shot about 12:30 a.m. outside Greenway Apartments at 5300 E. 21st St. The suspected shooter, Charles Williams, 22, was in fair condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital after being shot at least seven times. Police say Williams refused to drop his weapon when they arrived at the scene, leading to a shootout. Stevens, a former U.S. Marine who spent three tours of duty in Iraq, is a four-year member of the force.
