Arby’s robbed at knifepoint

September 18, 2013

Two Arby’s employees said they were robbed by a man brandishing a butcher knife, about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in Carmel. One employee told officers she was outside the fast-food restaurant in the 1200 block of Rangeline Road when a man with a bandana over his face grabbed her and forced her back inside. He took money from a safe and sped off in a stolen 2010 Honda Civic that was recovered nearby.

Man critical after hit-and-run

A 59-year-old Indianapolis man was in critical condition following a hit-and-run incident Tuesday afternoon on the city’s near-north side. Michael Robertson was walking along the 1700 block of Sheldon Street when he was struck by a 1998 green Chevrolet Malibu containing two women. Witnesses said the driver was trying to hit another vehicle driven by a co-worker with a baseball bat right before she ran into Robertson. Police are seeking the car’s registered owner, Felicia Moss.

Lottery sales lag forecast under new manager

The Hoosier Lottery is running about 17 percent behind projections for surplus revenue in July and August under manager Gtech Indiana, a subsidiary of a firm that also has missed its forecasts for the Illinois lottery.

Duke Energy stops insuring retirees, joining trend

The country's largest electric company last week began notifying about 14,500 retirees of Duke Energy and predecessors or subsidiaries in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

Ex-IU player goes on trial

Former Indiana University basketball player Devan Dumes is facing attempted murder charges in an Indianapolis courtroom. Dumes is charged with shooting Keith Jones in January. The trial began Monday with his attorney saying the 25-year-old was defending himself when he shot a drug dealer who wanted him to deliver cocaine to pay off a $225 debt. Jones, who spent two weeks in intensive care after the shooting, testified Monday that Dumes shot him while stealing his Chevrolet Camaro.
 

Police seeking west-side flasher

September 17, 2013

Police have received several reports of a man exposing himself to teenage girls and young women in Wayne Township. The latest report involves 13-year-old student at Lynhurst 7th and 8th Grade Center who saw the man at her bus stop Monday morning. Earlier reports came from a 13-year-old girl and two women, ages 20 and 33. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in a silver car.
 

Man shot in home invasion

September 17, 2013

A 51-year-old man suffered a serious gunshot wound to the chest about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday during a home invasion near North Harding and West 35th streets. Indianapolis police say two robbers who appeared to be in their late teens made off with more than $1,000 in cash. The victim has been upgraded to fair condition at Wishard Hospital.

Frullati Cafe & Bakery, operated by Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Kahala Corp., owes the mall at least $23,439 in back rent, according to a lawsuit filed Sept. 10 by landlord Simon Property Group Inc. in Marion Superior Court.
