Four face mailbox-bombing charges
Four high school students face charges of setting off a string of homemade mailbox bombs in Westfield neighborhoods. An off-duty police officer witnessed the boys buying products used in making the explosives at a local store and alerted authorities. The bombs were made with two-liter bottles and household cleaners. Facing Class A misdemeanor charges are 18-year-olds John R. Rogers, Maxwell R. Jackson, Grant J. Plummer and Zachary A. Loftalian.
Three arrested over handgun
A Noblesville man and two juveniles have been arrested for various crimes involving the same handgun. Christopher Lee South, 26, was charged with unlawful sale of a handgun and other three other violations after he sold the firearm to a 17-year-old Fishers High School student, who later sold it to a 16-year-old student. The students each were charged with a felony count of possession of a handgun with altered identifying marks.
Man injured in I-70 pileup dies
A man critically injured in a massive pileup Thursday afternoon on Interstate 70 west of Indianapolis died late Thursday night at IU Methodist Hospital. Harkirat Sohal, 25, of Ontario, was in the sleeper of a tractor-trailer driven by his father, 51-year-old Satpal Sohal. At least nine others were hurt in the pileup near Plainfield that involved 40 vehicles and closed the interstate for several hours.
