A Pike High School student was shot in the foot at a northwest-side park Thursday, prompting recreational activities to be relocated to another park. The victim, an 18-year-old senior, was on the basketball court at Northwestway Park at about 7:15 p.m. when shots rang out. He told police two people exchanged multiple shots at each other. He dove to the ground for cover and was struck in the foot. Police said the shooting appears to be gang- related and an isolated incident. A semi carrying hazardous materials caught fire after an accident at about 3 a.m. Friday, causing the closure of eastbound Interstate 70 in Hancock County near Post Road. The driver, 51-year-old Marcus Moore, of St. Louis, said he lost control after a tire blew out. The vehicle, which was hauling 3,500 pounds of a flammable resin solution used to make plastic products, hit a guard rail and sign post. Moore was flown to Wishard Hospital in serious condition. The highway may not reopen until Friday afternoon.
