On a seasonally adjusted basis, the pace of mortgage loan activity decreased 9.5 percent for the week ended Feb. 11, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. A Hamilton County mother and father came home Saturday afternoon to find their teenage son tied up in a closet and bleeding from the head after a home-invasion robbery. The family, who lives on Greenfield Avenue in suburban Noblesville, called for help about 2 p.m. after discovering their 17-year-old, who said the suspect forced his way into the home after knocking at the back door. The boy told police he was hit with a metal object before being confined. The robber got away with some coins and costume jewelry.
Two police cruisers were involved in an accident early Monday morning as officers chased a suspect in a stolen vehicle. The incident started about 9 p.m. Sunday when a woman said she was robbed of her car outside the Wal-Mart near 86th Street and Michigan Road. Officers spotted the car—which they believe had been spray-painted a different color—around midnight and gave chase when the driver refused to pull over. The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a squad car. It was not immediately clear whether any arrests were made.
Police are investigating a fight reported early Monday at Jillian’s in downtown Indianapolis. About 90 people were inside the restaurant/bar/entertainment center at 141 S. Meridian St. for a wake when a fight broke out just before 3 a.m. Detectives said 25-year-old Corey Andrews hit another man on the head with a bowling ball; he was arrested for aggravated assault. All told, three people were treated for injuries. Investigators believe some attendees were involved in a serious auto accident on East New York Street a short time later. One person was hospitalized in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to good condition. Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash.
