Investors fled for-profit college stocks Thursday after sector bellwether Apollo Group Inc. predicted a 40-percent drop in student enrollment next quarter and withdrew its forecast for next year. Hit-and-run suspect surrenders

October 14, 2010

A suspect sought in a hit-and-run that injured a pregnant woman surrendered to Indianapolis police on Wednesday. Jody Lee, 38, is believed to be the driver that hit Maria Isabel Benetez-Acateco on Monday night at South Elder Avenue and Maryland Street, police say. Benetez-Acateco was nine months pregnant and due the next day. The baby was delivered safely via emergency C-section and the mother is recovering.

Three cyclists hurt at IU

Three members of the Cutters bike team at Indiana University were injured Wednesday after a car hit the cyclists. The car struck the three men at about 5 p.m. as they were riding on Indiana 446 near Bloomington. Eric Brodell, 19, suffered a serious leg injury. The other two men were in good condition, with scrapes and bruises. Police say the driver appeared to be going too fast for the wet roads and will likely be ticketed.

Car chase leads to arrest

October 14, 2010

A man was taken to jail after leading Indianapolis police on a chase on the south side early Thursday morning. Police tried to pull the man over near Terrace Avenue and Talbott Street because they believed he was driving a stolen car, and after a 10-minute car chase, the driver and a passenger got out and ran. The passenger escaped but the driver was caught by a police dog. An officer was injured when he tripped and fell while chasing the suspects.
