Firefighters battled a garage fire for nearly 20 minutes Wednesday morning in Speedway. The blaze broke out about 5:45 a.m. in a freestanding garage behind a home in the 5100 block of Patricia Street, near 38th Street and Georgetown Road. The garage and contents were called a complete loss, but no injuries were reported.

Franklin police say the south-side community is having graffiti problems, with some homes being spray-painted multiple times. Police received reports of graffiti on three homes and one vehicle over the weekend, giving the city more than 50 graffiti reports so far this year, compared with five reports in 2011. Most of the incidents involve teenagers painting what they believe are gang symbols, police said.
The boyfriend of a young mother found dead late Monday night in a south-side Indianapolis home has been arrested on a preliminary charge of murder. Cory Musick, 23, is being held in the death of 24-year-old Shanna Elmore. Elmore’s body was removed Tuesday morning from a house in the 1800 block of Singleton Road, about eight hours after police were called to the scene. Musick and Elmore, who have two children together, have been involved in numerous domestic disturbances since 2011.
