Condition of teen shot at school improves

March 31, 2011

The medical condition of a 15-year-old Martinsville boy shot at school by another youth has improved. Chance Jackson has been upgraded to fair condition from serious at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, WIBC-FM reported. Jackson has undergone surgery twice after being shot twice March 25 at Martinsville West Middle School. A vigil and walk in honor of Jackson on Wednesday night attracted about 500 participants. Prosecutors want the 15-year-old boy arrested in connection with the shooting to be tried in adult court. He's due to go before a judge Friday.
 

Sharpton planning local office

Al Sharpton is following through on his pledge to open an office in Indianapolis. A spokesperson for the controversial civil rights activist said Sharpton will open his office in mid-April. Sharpton made the promise last year while visiting Indianapolis after city police were accused of using excessive force while arresting teenager Brandon Johnson.
 

Shooting victim dropped off at hospital

March 31, 2011

A shooting victim is in critical condition after being dropped off at Community Hospital East at 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Indianapolis police say the man was shot between 34th and 36th streets near Parker Avenue. They say the victim is likely to survive. The shooting may have occurred at a home neighbors call a "dope house."
 

Suit accuses Bank of America of fraud, racketeering

The complaint, filed in Marion Superior Court, follows a similar suit that was dismissed in federal court. Bank of America and its Countrywide unit are accused of using perjured affidavits to foreclose on homes.
