The Air Force is proposing to eliminate 152 jobs at the Indiana Air National Guard base in Fort Wayne as part of its plan to replace A-10 fighter jets there with reconnaissance aircraft.

Utility says water odor should subside

Citizens Water customers who noticed a chlorine odor to their tap water should begin seeing improvement, the utility said Tuesday. Customers have complained of the odor since January. Citizens said it has changed the type of chlorine it uses to disinfect the water. It might take a few days for some customers to notice the difference, Citizens said.

Councilman caught by fake hooker

A Beech Grove councilman was arrested for allegedly trying to solicit a prostitute Tuesday morning. Paul David Mobley, 63, was charged with patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor. According to police, Mobley approached an undercover female officer in the 3000 block of East Washington Street and agreed to pay $20 for oral sex. The undercover officer said she told Mobley to meet him behind a building, but Mobley changed his mind and drove off. Police stopped Mobley, who said he “just had a moment of weakness.” Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley said he sent Mobley a letter asking him to resign. Mobley was elected on Jan. 1 as an at-large councilman.

Pedestrian killed on east side

March 7, 2012

One pedestrian was killed and another was injured Tuesday night in an accident on the far-east side of Indianapolis. A 49-year-old woman was killed by an eastbound Mercedes Benz in the 7200 block of East Washington Street at about 8:15 p.m. A 50-year-old man she was walking with suffered minor injuries to his leg. Investigators don't believe alcohol was a factor.

Battle for students raises financial concern for turnaround schools

Just 62 percent of the students at four IPS schools being taken over by turnaround operators have chosen to remain at the schools, a situation that could shrink funding. The operators say the district has stymied their ability to inform students and their parents about their plans.

Local businesses open wallets for tornado relief

In announcing the release of quarterback Peyton Manning on Wednesday, a tearful Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay explained “circumstances were too difficult to overcome.” Beginning his departure from the Colts, the future Hall-of-Famer told Indianapolis, “I truly have enjoyed being your quarterback.”
