The local chapter of the NFL Alumni is building a reputation for becoming one of the league’s most active chapters for charity.

Tonight the Indianapolis chapter is inviting the public to the annual Caring for Kids Celebrity Music & Sports Fundraiser.

The event will be held at the Hard Rock Café in downtown Indianapolis with doors opening to the public at 7 p.m. Highlights of the event include mingling with former NFL athletes from the Indianapolis Colts, live music, art by nationally renowned painters, food, drinks and a live auction of exclusive items to benefit charity.

“We’re going to have a great time and raise money for Riley Hospital for Children” said Bill Schultz, NFL Alumni Indianapolis chapter president. “Included on the list for auction is a 2012 Super Bowl ticket raffle, memorabilia autographed by the most famous athletes in the world of sports, vacation getaways at beautiful golf courses and spas, and many additional items.”

A charitable donation of $25 per person will be accepted as admission to the downtown Hard Rock.

The NFL Alumni organization is composed of former players, coaches and game officials. While the organization was formed nationally in the 1950s, and the local chapter was launched in the early 1990s, local leaders have made a big push to become much more active in the local community over the last couple years.

In addition to working with children’s hospitals and health organizations, the Indianapolis chapter is involved in a number of educational and youth mentoring initiatives as well.

The local NFL Alumni chapter meets monthly, and in addition to its local auction party, hosts an annual golf outing each September to raise money for charity. This year, the golf outing is being hosted by Prairie View Golf Club.
