Expanded alcohol sales coming to state fair

May 5, 2016

The Indiana State Fair will feature expanded alcohol sales this year, allowing fairgoers to purchase alcohol at certain locations for the duration of the August exposition.

State fair officials cited "customer demand" as the reason they are allowing more opportunities to drink, The Munster Times reported. That comes after the state Legislature in 2014 lifted a ban on alcohol sales that had been in place since 1947.

Beer and wine will be sold at evening concerts and at non-student events, including the rodeo, monster truck and horse racing competitions.

Alcohol sales were previously restricted to one location at three ticketed events. Sales and consumption will be restricted to designated areas during the 17-day event.
