As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowAvept Inc., a distributor of powersports and automotive parts, said Monday that it plans to open a warehouse in Brownsburg, creating up to 118 jobs by 2019.
The El Dorado Hills, California-based company plans to spend $6.3 million to buy, renovate and equip a 100,000-square-foot building at 1210 E. Northfield Drive in Brownsburg. This will be Avept's second distribution center, supplementing one adjacent to its headquarters. The company said the more central location of its Brownsburg center will allow it to deliver products to some customers three to four days faster than it can from California. The Brownsburg center also will house sales, customers service and product-development operations.
“Indiana is a state that is business-friendly, and Brownsburg and surrounding areas offer our employees a great quality of life,” Nathan Klejwa, president of Avept, said in a written statement. “As the crossroads of America, Indiana’s central geography will lower our delivery costs and get products into customers’ hands in half the time.”
Founded in 2005, Avept works with small service and repair shops to supply them with parts for all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, cars and trucks. The company, which has 40 employees, shipped more than a half-million parts last year, a 40 percent increase from a year earlier.
Avept handles more than 10,000 components. Its goal is to increase that number to 100,000 within two years.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Avept up to $595,000 in tax credits and up to $55,000 in training grants based on the company's job-creation plans. The incentives are performance-based, meaning the company can't claim them until workers are hired. The town of Brownsburg approved additional incentives.
Avept is the fifth company to announce this year that it has selected Hendricks County for an expansion. Last month, Kohl’s said it had begun renovations on a 937,000-square-foot distribution center in Plainfield and plans to create 900 jobs there by 2020.
