  1. We pay $70 per month for a landline at a property that does not get cell coverage. That is their cheapest option. No call-waiting, no caller ID, no voicemail (it has an old school answering machine). The government wants to give away expensive and land-fill, heavy metal, slave labor mining, cell phones to people. Maybe they should make land lines available again, and make them affordable for everyone. There are certain systems (i.e. the post office) that a well prepared society should have.

  2. We have AT&T internet. We also have AT&T TV, price of which continues to increase, so we could no longer afford AT&T LandLine. We really had no choice but go with cell phones only.

  3. AT&T forced conversion to fiber optic service . They did away with copper wire lines and DSL . Now my land line is on the internet . So when the power is out the phone is also out.

  4. This article mentions it towards the end in a quote. The real thing is that younger generations don’t want to talk on the phone, at all. The outage issue was more data than calls, for us. I find phone calls, particularly unscheduled ones, to be insanely rude. Please text or email. If we can’t get our point across via text or email, then let’s schedule a call.

    1. That seems very egocentric….only call me on MY schedule. So much for a friend to spontaneously call you to talk or invite you to something, or heaven forbid…actually need your help urgently!
