  1. This just shouldn’t happen. It’s bad for workers & consumers. Capitalism only works when there’s competition, thus why the FTC – among other agencies – is tasked with putting up these types of guardrails. It’s nice to an FTC that does its job.

  2. Per Data Analytics company, Numerator:

For the last three years, Walmart has maintained a market share by dollars spent of more than 20% and increased its market share gradually every year. In 2021, Walmart captured 21.9%, followed by 22.6% in 2022, and 23.6% in 2023, putting the retail giant at the top of the list.

Meanwhile, Kroger’s share of dollars spent has declined over the last three years with 11.2% in 2021, 10.6% in 2022, and 10.1% in 2023.

Costco has seen its market share increase over the last three years with 8.8% in 2021, 9% in 2022, and 9.2% in 2023.

Albertsons took the fourth spot in 2023, capturing 6.4% over the course of the year. That’s down from 6.7% in 2022 and 6.5% in 2021.

In fifth place, Publix has remained flat over the last three years, earning 4.8% every year since 2021.
