The move is the latest expansion for OrthoIndy, which recently announced mergers with practices in Evansville and Fort Wayne.
With the agreement, Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center will continue to see patients at its existing clinics and will now perform surgeries at OrthoIndy hospitals. The practices said patients benefit from increased access to the most advanced technologies, treatment options and a larger network of comprehensive orthopedic sub-specialists.
“Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center will keep its practice name in the near term as it is a very well-known brand and we want to avoid patient confusion,” OrthoIndy CEO John Ryan said in an emailed statement. “We will work to blend the two brands over the longer term as it makes sense.”
The two practices said there will be no immediate changes for patients to current scheduling practices and physician availability. Further integration will occur over time so that it does not disrupt patient care, the practices said in a news release. Terms of the deal were not released.
With more than 90 physicians, OrthoIndy has locations around the Indianapolis area as well as Lafayette and Greencastle. The Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center also has locations across Central Indiana, extending to sites including Terre Haute and Rushville.
“As a unified independent practice, we will transform the way orthopedic care is delivered, make comprehensive orthopedic treatment more efficient for our patients and grow our presence within the markets we proudly serve while positively transforming the lives of our patients and maintaining our focus on the education of the next generation of hand and upper extremity surgeons,” Dr. Tom Kaplan, managing partner of Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, said in a written statement.
In January, OrthoIndy, Tri-State Orthopaedics in Evansville, and Fort Wayne Orthopedics announced plans to merge and create OrthoIndiana. OrthoIndy says the merger is expected to be completed this year.
