With an average attendance of 4,000 and an arena with a capacity of 3,500, tickets will become a premium, and this will drive a resale market. I am a fan of the AIM, and it will provide visitors with a better overall experience. Plenty of hotels within a short drive (not available at the Coliseum) and more to do in the area during down times (also not an option at the Coliseum). While I hate to see the Coliseum lose another event, the reality is the Coliseum is anchored in an area that is not welcoming to visitors.
They might be conflating ticket sales with attendance. On purpose if so, and everyone does it. Didn’t feel like that many at any one of the sessions but it was well attended. Agreed, though, these events need to seem full in order to justify not leaving them on campus. And the corporate hosting trade off has to be right. Horizon did well to make the dead space behind the baskets a VIP and a general bar area but AIM will surely have a better set up for the corporate sports club of (Greater) Indianapolis.
If a college team is supposed to be about building school spirit and community, I don’t see how locating IU-Indy’s basketball team at least 22 miles away in another county is the best way of doing it.
John, this is not IU-Indy home games. The Noblesville arena deal is specifically for the Horizon League Championship. IU-Indy is building a new on campus arena for their home games which have been at the Coliseum and their outdated on-campus gym.
