It’s wild how the same legislators who claimed to be so upset about LEAP … just setup an unelected board with the power to distribute multiple billions of dollars to the billionaire owners of a football team.
It’s wild how you and the rest of the iBJ Democrats are losing your mind over politicians pursuing a NFL team. Literally every politician in the country does this and if Indiana wasn’t pursuing this you Democrats would be howling about lost opportunity and JJ would say Indiana is “40 years behind”.
Chuck, I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy. Besides, the math won’t work.
“…while stadium projects in dense downtown areas can struggle to make the math work, it’s nearly impossible to do so in suburban areas, Noonan said.
“If you don’t bring in some other tools and make some other investments, this is likely to be a very impressively concentrated and captured amount of spending [inside the stadium] and may not spread very far,” he said.
“In the normal setup where there is an urban NFL stadium or other big pro sports stadium with a big city developed around it in some form or another, the economic impact of that spending … is [still] generally underwhelming at best.”•

@Joe B. Facts and good policy are of no interest to the Right – it’s all about perceived optics of “winning”…..the decline continues.
+1
I’m pretty sure there are some Dems up in NW Indiana who are also pushing this.
I’m supportive of helping the area with the convention center project, or investing in upgraded transit, better roads, and better schools to lure Illinois residents to move.
I just don’t see how the math ever adds up with a stadium. Every additional tax dollar it may generate will be captured and go to pay for the building, and the odds seem high that the team moves back to Illinois and leaves us with a 15 or so year old stadium with very few events that we owe a half billion dollars on.
Shane- you are aware every democrat in Lake Co has publicly come out in support of this, right?
Always more room for more corporate welfare for billionaire’s projects . Never can afford to improve childcare services .
Why would the taxpayers of Indiana underwrite this? So they Bears get an interest free loan for billions. This does nothing for the state. Even if it had some benefit it would only be for a small area. People will be displaced.
Indiana continues its pursuit of the title “Most Backward State” in the USA.
