Starbucks: *closes a ton of stores to thwart labor organizing, vacant spaces get taken up by local coffee shops*
Also Starbucks: “What happened?!”
A lot of competition and pricing themselves out of the market.
Pricing has to be the issue. You can get a pretty good coffee for much less at many restaurants.
I went to a Starbucks Roastery when I was in Seattle and it was pretty good. You get hand pulled espresso, a variety of freshly made food like sandwiches and flat bread pizza, and a full bar. That’s an experience that most coffee shops can’t match with
But if they’re going to put 5 quick service coffee shops in a small area, why would I choose Starbucks instead of the local shop or the regional chain, which offers a better product at a comparable price?
