  1. Proper approval process and annual follow up are essential with charter schools. Obviously the control has been lax with the number of failures, and each draws funds away from our public education system. Leaders must recognize that strong public education is essential for a thriving and growing community. Controls are a must, and limiting authority is an excellent first move in that direction.

    1. +1. Agree fully. I hope Sen. Hunley’s bill receives a hearing and proper consideration by the Senate.

    2. There’s a better chance of Bray and Huston starting a tribute act to Van Halen in which one is David Lee Roth and the other is Sammy Hagar.

  2. “The Indiana Charter School Network, which represents the state’s charter schools, is also opposed to the bill.”

The Indiana Charter School Network is the Institute for Quality Education, Indiana’s charter and voucher school advocacy organization. There is no separate organization. Not even a dba. ICSN is just a name used in marketing and lobbying and filing amicus (friend of court) briefs in litigation and future $1 law claims.

  3. The 30% failure rate is just built-in in feature of the charter school system. Indiana is not alone in this problem. Every state that has an expansive charter school system has this problem. It was known problem 10 years ago and I guess this is good step, but I’m not sure this will make a difference.

I do know one thing that will cure the tax dollar give away and that is to eliminate charter schools, but actually using the tax money for public schools would be taking away somebodies’ “freedom”.
