Black Expo shooter arrested again

June 20, 2013

The man convicted of shootings during the 2010 Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration that left at least nine people wounded in downtown Indianapolis was arrested Wednesday night after a police chase on the city’s northwest side. Shamus Patton, 20, and two other men were taken into custody after the pursuit. Police said it began with an attempted traffic stop. When the chase ended at 25th Street and Falcon Drive, police discovered two guns in the vehicle. Patton was sentenced to eight years in prison for aggravated battery after the IBE shootings. He was scheduled to be released from the Indiana Department of Corrections in mid-July, but was being housed in a community transitions unit after serving only two years, eight months and 30 days.
 

Undercover probe nets car theft suspects

Marion County prosecutors announced charges Wednesday against five men accused of stealing seven vehicles valued at $107,000 in Marion, Johnson and Hendricks counties. The charges stem from a nearly year-long undercover operation conducted by Lawrence and Indianapolis police, state police and the National Insurance Crime Bureau. The accused—Jeremy Henderson, Jamison Scott, Terrel Kay, Dominique Miller and Arron Smith—all have been charged with at least one felony count of auto theft.

Tyco to buy Fishers-based technology firm for $150 million

Tyco International Ltd. said Wednesday that it reached a deal to acquire Exacq Technologies Inc., which develops video management systems for security and surveillance uses.

Five injured in 2-vehicle crash

Five people were injured—one seriously—in a two-vehicle accident on the northeast side Monday. Emergency crews had to free two people trapped by the crash, which happened just before 9 p.m. at North Dequincy Street and Kessler Boulevard. Quindell Johnson, 21, was listed in serious condition, while four others were in stable condition.
 

Blaze chases 8 from home

June 19, 2013

A family of eight was forced from an Indianapolis home by a fire early Wednesday. A renter and seven minors escaped the blaze in the 1800 block of Dexter Street near West 16th and Harding streets. Damage was estimated at $25,000.
 

Suspicious fire injures 2

June 19, 2013

Two Lebanon residents were hospitalized early Wednesday following a suspicious house fire that might have stemmed from a domestic dispute. Shawn Lambert, 45, was rescued from the home in the 500 block of East Noble Street at about 1 a.m. and taken to a hospital in critical condition. His wife, Dorothy Lambert, 58, was found outside the home. Their dog died in the fire. Police had been called to the house for a domestic disturbance a couple of hours before the fire.
 

ACLU sues BMV over gay youth group case

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, seeking the reinstatement of specialty auto license plates for a group that counsels gay and lesbian youth.
