A resident and an Indianapolis firefighter suffered minor injuries in a house fire Tuesday morning on the southeast side. The blaze began about 5 a.m. in the 2300 block of East Beecher Street, near East Raymond Street and South Keystone Avenue, when a 32-year-old man left a stove unattended. He suffered burns to his right hand and some smoke inhalation. The injured firefighter fell through the floor and twisted his knee.
One man was shot to death and another injured late Monday night in the Krazy Street Grille on the south side of Indianapolis. Police say numerous shots were fired during a fight about 11 p.m. at the nightclub in the 400 block of East Thompson Road. The man who was killed suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The other victim was in fair condition and being detained at Wishard Hospital pending an investigation.
A Tuesday morning fire forced the evacuation of a smoke-filled Target store in suburban Indianapolis. The Fishers Fire Department said the blaze began in a rear storage room of the store near Interstate 69 and 116th Street and was put out when a fire sprinkler activated. No injuries were reported. The store was closed while health department inspectors checked out the grocery department.

About a hundred people held candles and stood together outside Southwest Elementary School in Greenwood on Sunday night to remember a second-grade teacher killed in an explosion. Jennifer Longworth and her husband, John Dion Longworth, died when their home in the Richmond Hill neighborhood blew up Saturday. Many of Longworth's colleagues and students attended the vigil. The school had a two-hour delay Monday morning and is making grief counselors available for students and faculty.
