Kroger manager resigns after shooting
A manager who killed a robbery suspect at a Kroger store in Indianapolis on Dec. 26 has resigned. Elijah Elliott, 24, shot Jeremy Atkinson at the Kroger store at West 71st Street and Georgetown Road during the robbery attempt. Authorities said Elliott acted in self-defense and protected fellow employees. Elliott said Kroger, where he worked for six years, stood by him after the incident, granting him paid leave after the shooting and offering counseling. He said he wasn’t fired even though Kroger has a no-firearm policy.
Accident kills moped driver
Martinsville police closed the State Road 39 Bypass at Mitchell Street for nearly two hours while officers investigated a fatal accident involving a moped and a car. The driver of the moped was thrown from his vehicle and died in the 9:30 p.m. accident. No other injuries were reported.
Woman darts in front of semi, dies
An Indianapolis woman was killed by a semi Wednesday afternoon after she ran in front of traffic on northbound Interstate 69. All northbound lanes were closed for about two hours following the incident near State Road 37 and 116th Street. Witnesses said Linda Jackson, 44, ran in front of the truck. The crash is under investigation. Prior to the accident, police received several calls about a woman running in front of vehicles.
