Three people have been arrested in connection with the killing of a woman whose body was found on fire near a central Indiana nature preserve. The body was spotted by motorists Saturday near the Craddock Wetlands Nature Preserve in Muncie. Detectives charged 24-year-old Terry Rutledge with murder. Police said Rutledge killed the victim before heading to a couple of bars. He, Regina Miller and Antowyn Warren left the woman’s body on the side of the road hours later. Rutledge has been charged with murder, obstruction of justice and assisting a criminal. Miller and Warren have been charged with obstruction of justice and assisting a criminal.
Purdue University will play Western Michigan University in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit Dec. 27. Purdue and the University of Notre Dame were the only Indiana universities to be invited to football bowls, according to a schedule announced Sunday. Notre Dame will play Florida State University in the Champs Sports Bowl Dec. 29 in Orlando, Fla. Ball State University was also bowl-eligible with a 6-6 record, but was not invited to a bowl.
James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School, at 40th Street near Capitol Avenue, was placed on lockdown Monday morning while police searched for an armed suspect in the area. Police said the suspect fired multiple shots near 39th Street and Cornelius Avenue. Officers pursued the suspect to 40th and Graceland Avenue but the suspect ran away once confronted.
Carmel resident David Wasilewski has launched WhatNext, a website that uses algorithms to make it easier for cancer patients to connect with others in similar circumstances. Wasilewski, 39, spent eight years as chief operating officer of the Spanx line of body shapers and did health care consulting before that. In addition to helping patients, he thinks WhatNext can become a way for health care organizations share their expertise with patients in need.
