Text program to raise funds for fair victims

A Text-to-Give program was created Wednesday as another way for people to donate money to Indiana State Fair concert-disaster victims. Those interested in donating $10 to the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund can text “FAIR” to 27722. Users may make as many as three donations.

ESPN: Patrick all in for NASCAR

Danica Patrick plans to announce her plans to move from IndyCar to NASCAR full time in 2012, ESPN.com is reporting. ESPN said multiple sources say Patrick will drive the No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet for JR Motorsports. Her contracts are still under negotiation.

Roche Diagnostics Corp., which runs its U.S. headquarters out of Indianapolis, got a boost Wednesday when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a new genetic test to go along with a new Roche melanoma drug.

School shooter faces more charges

Convicted Martinsville school shooter Michael Phelps faces new charges for allegedly sending threatening messages from jail. Prosecutors say Phelps wrote to friends while he was behind bars awaiting trial for trying to kill former classmate Chance Jackson. Phelps was convicted of attempted murder for shooting Jackson in March. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison last week. He is now charged with intimidation and obstruction of justice.

I-70 ramp to be closed this weekend

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to continue a series of weekend closures for concrete repairs on area interstate ramps. Crews will begin closing the westbound Interstate 70 ramp (exit 79A) to South West Street and South Missouri Street at 7 p.m.  Friday. The ramp will remain closed through the weekend and is expected to reopen before 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers can learn the locations of work zones and closures at www.TrafficWise.IN.gov.

Senator ponders law after fair tragedy

The fatal stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair may result in at least one new state law. State Sen. Jim Merritt of Indianapolis said he expects to write new legislation requiring state inspections of temporary structures. Those inspections are not currently required by state law. Merritt said the law could be put on the fast track because of the severity of Saturday’s tragedy.
