Center for the Performing Arts
The big-ticket benefit with David Hyde Pierce and Michael Feinstein is next week. This week, it’s no-ticket events for people who want to take a look and give a listen to the new Tarkington Theatre at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel.
These “tuning” concerts include a Thursday event staged by the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (while free, you’ll need to make a reservation for this one), a Saturday Kids Day featuring Iibada Dance Company, Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre and more, and a July 31 open house and ribbon cutting, which will include the Indy Irish Dancers, Indiana University Summer Concert Band, Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre (formerly Indianapolis Civic Theatre) and Actors Theatre of Indiana. Mother ruled OK to stand trial
An Indianapolis woman accused of child neglect has been found competent to stand trial. Police say Ebyan Farah, 28, put four of her five children in a closet last September and left them there for 10 hours. Two of the children, a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old daughter, died. Farah faces eight felony counts, including two charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Doctors found Farah not competent to stand trial but a judge reversed that decision. She is being held without bond.
Man charged with murder, robbery
Prosecutors filed murder charges Monday against Justin Carter, 28, in the deaths of a Greenwood couple. Carter is accused of killing Steven and Julia Konchinsky in their home on July 16 while on a search for drugs and money. He also was charged with robbing a bank two days after the murders. He is being held without bond.
Shooting victim dies in hospital
A man shot on Indianapolis’ northeast side early Monday morning has died from his injuries. Police say Thomas Ocel, 19, was shot in the 3700 block of North Butler Avenue. A second person also was shot but his name is not being released. Police said the victims drove themselves to Wishard Hospital after the shootings. Police are searching for suspects.
