Victim critical after shooting near Purdue

Police say an Indianapolis man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the neck outside a nightclub near Purdue University early Monday. West Lafayette Police Lt. Gary Sparger said officers called to break up fights at Nick’s Nightclub about 1:45 a.m. heard gunshots in the parking lot when they arrived. Antwain Harrison, 22, was found wounded and was taken to an Indianapolis hospital. Police say a special event at the nightclub had drawn a crowd mostly from Indianapolis. At least 50 people were outside when the shooting happened.

Broken water main snarls traffic

An early-morning water main break on the city’s west side created a mess for the Monday morning commute. Water was spilling onto 16th Street near Tibbs Avenue for hours. Crews shut down one lane of traffic, but frigid temperatures caused the water to freeze, creating slick spots drivers had to navigate around. Veolia Water officials told Fox59 crews they hope to have the area open in time for the evening rush hour.

Mother arrested for neglect of 4-year-old

An Indianapolis mother was arrested after her 4-year-old was found wandering in a hotel parking lot Thursday night. Hotel staff at the Motel 6 in the 2800 block of North Shadeland Avenue called police when they noticed the child crying in the parking lot. The boy was alone and without a coat in the 32-degree weather.  Sandra Jones, 39, was arrested for neglect. Her son was taken into the custody of Child Protection Services.
 

Woman survives one accident, not the next

Linda Jean Robbins, 62, of Shelbyville died Friday morning on the southeast side of Indianapolis when she was struck by a car after surviving a crash. Robbins was driving on the Southeastern Avenue ramp off Interstate 74 at about 6:15 a.m. when her SUV slid on ice into a guard rail. She was ejected from the vehicle and survived. Robert W. Tompkins, 48, of Rushville and another man stopped to help Robbins when another car lost control on the icy ramp. The car, driven by 22-year-old Kevin Shadday Jr., hit Robbins and Tomkins. Robbins died on the scene and Tomkins suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Shadday was driving with a suspended license and may face charges, police say.

 

Factory orders sink for first time since June

Factory orders declined 0.9 percent in October, the Commerce Department reported Friday. It was the first setback since June and the biggest decline since a 1.8-percent fall in May.
