Indiana is blessed with abundant energy resources. We have a 300-year supply of coal. A substantial part of the 214 million barrels of oil and 4.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the Illinois Basin sits in southwestern Indiana. Two charged with furniture thefts

November 1, 2012

Fishers police have arrested two people who may be connected to a series of thefts at merchants in Hamilton and Marion counties. Rogar Simmons, 34, and Michelle Doehring, 53, both of Cleveland, face preliminary charges of theft after police say they were caught using fraudulent information to buy furniture at the Kittle’s Furniture distribution center. A possible accomplice who was driving their U-Haul truck fled the scene on foot. Police said more charges may be filed.
 

Chemical spill at local plant contained

November 1, 2012

Authorities say workers were evacuated from a Rolls-Royce facility near Indianapolis International Airport early Thursday because of an acid spill. A fire official said a valve failed, causing three types of acid to mix in an aluminum drum and eat through the drum. A hazardous materials team contained and neutralized the spill. No injuries were reported.
 

Local reservoirs back to normal

After a dry summer that sparked water restrictions across central Indiana, area reservoirs are back to normal. Citizens Energy Group said Morse, Geist and Eagle Creek are full and their underground aquifers are recharged. The company credited water restrictions and steady rainfall.

Judge approves Shelbyville racino sale to Centaur

A bankruptcy court judge has approved Centaur Holdings LLC's purchase of the Indiana Grand racetrack and casino in Shelbyville for $500 million. The deal still requires regulatory approvals.

Duke loss narrows, quarter meets expectations

Indianapolis-based Duke Realty Corp. on Wednesday reported a third-quarter loss of $28.2 million, smaller than a loss of $32 million in the same quarter of 2011.
