Carmel firm’s bird feeders perched in 2,700 Walmarts

Sisters Jan Long and Chris Mowery had little more than an idea in 1995 when they trekked to Kmart’s corporate headquarters to pitch a product they thought had potential: a recyclable bird feeder their father had designed to promote his plastics business. They left with their first big contract.

Carmel woman reported missing

October 22, 2013

Carmel police are searching for a woman who has been missing for five days. Natalya Kuznetsova, 44, was last seen at The Fresh Market, 2490 E. 146th St., on Oct. 17. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound woman has brown hair and brown eyes. She drives a tan Buick Rendezvous with Indiana license plate 201CBQ.

Carmel choir teacher suspended

October 11, 2013

A choir teacher and instructional assistant were suspended by Carmel Clay Schools on Wednesday after being accused of using “teaching techniques not proper for choral instruction,” the district said. Students say Clay Middle School Choir Director Amanda Griffin restrained students with duct tape to eliminate unwanted arm movement during performances and made them do push-ups. The district declined to provide details. “Pending our administrative review of the situation, we have relieved the teacher and instructional assistant from further classroom duties,” it said in a letter to parents.

Car rear-ends Carmel bus

A car rear-ended a Carmel school bus Monday about 7:40 a.m. near Creekside Middle School, injuring the bus driver. Children had already been dropped off at Creekside before the accident near 126th Street and Shelbourne Road. The bus driver was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The driver and a passenger in the car declined treatment.
 

Tech firm plans to axe 54 workers in Carmel

Stamford, Conn.-based Frontier Communications Corp. said it has automated a number of systems at its collection center at 11799 N. College Ave. and will no longer need the workers.

Carmel man faces drug, sex charges

September 13, 2013

Jonathon E. Horton, 46, was arrested at his Carmel home Wednesday on prostitution and methamphetamine-related charges. Police said Horton performed a sex act on an undercover officer at the home in the 500 block of 1st Avenue Northeast before he was arrested. After the arrest for prostitution, authorities found meth and drug paraphernalia. They also turned over several electronic media storage devices to the Hamilton County Metro Child Exploitation Task Force for investigation.

 

Carmel warns parents about man

The Carmel Clay School District is warning parents and students about a man who approaches teenage girls and tries to give them his phone number and other social media information. The school and local police have received reports of several incidents from female students. None of the incidents happened on school property. The Hamilton County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is investigating whether the man has committed any crimes.
