Neither division has been named, but they break down like this: Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Northwestern in one; Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana in the other.
Big Ten officials want nearly twice as much money as the Southeastern Conference is getting from CBS for its championship
football game.
The Big Ten announced Thursday that the conference and the Indiana Sports Corp. will spend the next 30 days working out details
of the one-year deal. After that, the Big Ten will conduct thorough research to determine future locations.
Of this, that and the other as the lazy, hazy, not-so-crazy days of summer begin to wind down.
As of this writing, the Big Ten has 12 teams, the Big 12 has 10 teams and the Pac-10 has 11 teams.
With the addition of the University of Nebraska, the Big Ten logo is likely to change. Conference officials are seriously
considering a new name for the conference.
Nebraska may be heading to the Big Ten, Colorado is leaving the Big 12, and a host of other college athletic moves could be
on tap.
The new Big Ten Network and some of the nation’s largest cable television systems are fighting over how consumers will be charged for the network’s programming. Hundreds of sporting events could be blacked out in local markets, including scores of Indiana and Purdue university football and basketball games, if the two sides don’t reach an agreement.
