I know it’s not what is stated here, since the examples kept the same salary, but I suspect many companies would love to do this for employees paid an hourly rate. Cut everyone’s hours to 32, pay them the same hourly rate as when they were working 40. Save 20%, but still expect the same productivity. But yay – workers get an extra day off to be stressed about getting the work done in 32 hours instead of 40.
They’d also use it as a justification to cut back on benefits.
