Is anyone else curious about what becomes of the vintage gas station? IHPC generally frowns on tearing stuff down. Ask the Cunningham Group…
Maybe some historic purist would care, but that station has no relevance in the 21st century, especially with the new development north of there. It really appears as an impediment to progress.
Which gas station are you referring to? The location was a former car lot, I believe the gas tanks are still buried (never saw them dig them up) after ownership changed over the years. To me that is the biggest blocker assuming the new owners do the right thing and not the easy thing and completely ignore proper clean up protocols.
I’m also a little worried about that. I generally agree with Kevin, it doesn’t really add value to the neighborhood and doesn’t actually have historic significance. The only thing unique about it is its use of materials.
The interior renderings look good, the arched openings on the exterior seem a little dated looking, like designs from the 1980’s.
I thought the exact same thing about those arched openings. A more classic design might blend with the area better.
I have trouble envisioning a boutique hotel steps away from the growing encampment which remains unaddressed. The trail is consistently filthy in this location between the concerts that don’t clean up after themselves and those who wander the trail using it as their personal trash can. 🚮
I agree that these are issues to be delt with, but blocking construction of buildings won’t fix them.

Same. There’s a building between but still. When I ride by I wonder where are these folks going to the bathroom? I can probably guess. They could upcharge the rooms with western views of the camp. Also, allow bathroom access for the campers in the hotel. Snark.

At the end of the day who am I to tell a developer how to spend $6 million? Im sure the owner would love feed back from those that live in the area but what’s there to not like about growth and development in a vibrant neighborhood like Fountain Sq? Plenty of peer cities has something similar. Louisville has a version in NuLu. Columbus Ohio has Short North. Cincinnati has Over the Rhine and Clevelands Playhouse Sq district. Point is all these areas are constantly evolvong with development and growth and Indy should always embrace urban developments of all kinds.
Isn’t “The Idle” the name of that little spot off the Cultural Trail where you can sit and watch I-65 traffic?
