God forbid we eliminate boondoggles, waste, and freeloading programs.
The clean up of the Federal budget is decades overdue.
Yes, there is always some waste, but institutions built over decades are there for a good reason and in almost all cases doing a great deal of good even if the average voter is too ignorant to understand what government does for them.
That’s a great idea, going after fraud and waste. If you actually wanted to do that, why would you start that crusade by firing all the inspector generals empowered to go after fraud and waste?
It wouldn’t be so that Trump and his cronies could rip us all off with impunity, would it?
Just a hint, it’s gonna be four more years of being wrong a lot if you’re going to parrot his talking points.
The expense of changing the name of a body of water the US does not “own” might be interesting to know as well. Maps, stationery, signage, hiring people to carry this all out. Even if it ends up “only” being $500,000 or so, isn’t that a waste?
Perhaps. And we have a Constitutional means to do so…the Congressional Appropriations process. Arbitrary impoundment of funds, such as we’ve just witnessed, is a violation of federal law. President Trusk and his MAGAt government have just broken the law. Seems a President clearly violating the law a year ago would have resulted in a massive outcry from the Republicans in Congress. Jim Jordan and his allies would be drafting impeachment articles. But wait, Trusk is President. So there will be no investigatins, not outcry. Just the bleating of sheep…
Well then, maybe you should talk to the people who actually hold the power of the purse, as defined by the Constitution. Congress.
You know, for right-wingers who claim they love the Constitution so much, you all seem to want to ignore it when it’s convenient for you.
The Republicans party seems very adept at tearing things down. It takes hard work to build things up and there seems to be little or no plan for that.
The Jailbreak party is working hard to Make some weird version of America Great Again.
It’s not unusual for new governors or new mayors to enter office and institute a temporary spending and/or hiring freeze in order to conduct a comprehensive review, set priorities, guidelines etc. It is new for presidents to do it. It’s about time. Improve communication around it but don’t stop scrutinizing our federal tax dollars that have over time been increasingly directed at programs well outside the constitutional role of the federal government.

It’s not unusual for governors or mayors to stop spending and hiring. They may or may not have statutory authority to do so, but that’s okay.
It is okay for a President of the United States to come into office and violate Federal law by instituting such a program. And it violates the Constitution of the US, which said new President just took an oath to uphold.
All this freedom to violate the law. In the name of what? Good government? Congress passed these appropriations. A President, perhaps not of the new President’s political party, approved the legislation. It’s the law. Now this new guy wants to change. And rather than follow the law and the Constitution, the MAGAts believe this is all okay. And we wonder what happened to respect for the law….it’s not liberals who are undermining respect for law and order, it’s the historically law and order party.
scrutiny is welcomed. That does not justify usurping congressional authority, statutes, and approved appropriations. We’ll see if Congress maintains its independence. There is a reason for separation of powers ~ which Trump purposesly ignores.
And now we see they’ve backed down. And the judge is suggesting he will enter the injuction, to keep them from trying something like this again.
I wonder if the thought of violating an injuction even bothers Trusk.
