    1. +1, this is going to make some of these sofa economist economist here in Indianapolis very mad.

    2. This actually has nothing to do with tariffs and everything to do with economic geography and world-scale product specialization. The exact opposite of tariffs.

Roche and its predecessor companies have been here for 50 years making a high value-add product. In addition, dozens of other life sciences companies have grown up here. Over that time, the metro area has strengthened its reputation as a life-sciences hub, and has built up a critical mass of the people with specialized skills necessary to manage FDA-approved products and production processes.

(Don’t know about sofa economists…I actually earned a degree in the field.)

    3. Gosh you need to apply for a job with the federal government then maybe you can be treasury secretary and Brent b can be head of the Federal reserve since you both know so much about the economy
This comes straight from the article. The company said Monday’s announcement was “aligning with national efforts to strengthen local manufacturing.”

    4. Well, in corporate-speak, “aligns with” means “we were going to do it anyway and we can win MAGA friends at the Statehouse by announcing it now”.

No big corporation spins up this level of investment in less than a year of study and consideration.

    5. Gosh Chris, how about the inflation numbers from today. Guess that blows Brent B and your economic forecast out of the water. Maybe you can get a 50% refund on that economic degree.

    6. Rhea, try to stay with the topic…I don’t remember saying anything about inflation.

Indiana has been adding pharma and medical device jobs for decades now because we’re good at those things, what economists call “comparative advantage” and what MBAs call “competitive”. A Hoosier might even call it “home court advantage”.

  1. IBJ Democrats— how is this possible??!!??
What company would possibly invest in this knuckle dragging Neanderthal red State? Plus, who is going to work there? According to you, all the “young people” are going to leave?

    1. Yes, how dare a company open a manufacturing facility in Indiana and pay good wages. Why according to Chris B, who has a degree in economics and Brent B Trump is destroying the economy.

    2. Rhea, Indiana has been adding pharma and medical device jobs for decades now because we’re good at those things, what economists call “comparative advantage” and what MBAs call “competitive”. A Hoosier might even call it “home court advantage”. I’m all for this and it has nothing at all to do with politics.

  2. MAGA trolls in the house today, with their general lack of understanding of business and economics on full display. LOL. Attributing this announcement from Roche, which has a long established presence in Indianapolis, as a product of the chaos sown by Trump’s economic policies is just stupid.

    1. Poor Marshall, doesn’t like it when good things happen to Indiana and the country, it defeats his democratic ranting and raving that the economy is crashing. As far at MAGA trolls, you AOC followers have the majority on here constantly bashing anything Trump does. Might want to invest in a Kleenex manufacturer, your going to need it.
