+1, this is going to make some of these sofa economist economist here in Indianapolis very mad.
This actually has nothing to do with tariffs and everything to do with economic geography and world-scale product specialization. The exact opposite of tariffs.
Roche and its predecessor companies have been here for 50 years making a high value-add product. In addition, dozens of other life sciences companies have grown up here. Over that time, the metro area has strengthened its reputation as a life-sciences hub, and has built up a critical mass of the people with specialized skills necessary to manage FDA-approved products and production processes.
(Don’t know about sofa economists…I actually earned a degree in the field.)

Well, in corporate-speak, “aligns with” means “we were going to do it anyway and we can win MAGA friends at the Statehouse by announcing it now”.
No big corporation spins up this level of investment in less than a year of study and consideration.
