Children injured in fire

April 25, 2011

Two children were critically injured in a fire Monday morning in a duplex on the east side of Indianapolis. The girls, a 4-year-old and 5-month-old, are in critical condition at Riley Hospital for Children. Their 28-year-old mother is in serious condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital. The mother was awakened by the fire about 3 a.m., but was unable to get to the children. Firefighters found the infant in her crib and the 4-year-old under her bed. Two men were found shot to death last week in the other half of the duplex.
 

Fishers money manager granted continuance

Man sentenced for Broad Ripple murder

A man accused of killing a Broad Ripple woman in October 2007 was sentenced Thursday to 88 years in prison, including 65 years for murder, 20 years for burglary and three years for abusing a corpse. Nathan Anderson, 22, was found guilty earlier this month of killing 44-year-old Jane Pepper. Anderson climbed through a window in Pepper’s apartment and stabbed her to death with her kitchen knives. Anderson was arrested in Texas in March 2009 after investigators matched his DNA from a prior conviction with evidence found at the crime scene.
 

Police arrest naked man

April 22, 2011

Indianapolis police arrested a man who they say scuffled with an officer while nude Wednesday. Police say an officer approached Joseph Buda, who was completely naked, near 46th Street and High School Road. According to the report, Buda told the officer "Devil, c'mon. We're going to hell. I'm going to bite you." Investigators said Buda fought with the officer before he was subdued and handcuffed. Buda is charged with public indecency and resisting law enforcement.

 

Student robbed at bus stop

April 22, 2011

Two teenagers accused of robbing a 15-year-old student at gunpoint Friday morning at a bus stop in Lawrence have been arrested. Police are still searching for a third possible suspect. The incident occurred in the 4700 block of Richardt Avenue, near Shadeland Avenue and Interstate 465, at about 6:30 a.m. Police arrived at the scene within minutes because they received an earlier call about a suspicious vehicle in the area. The student was not hurt.
 

Greenwood Shoppes seeks bankruptcy reorganization

The shopping center on U.S. 31 is the third Broadbent-operated strip mall to fall into bankruptcy and its second in Greenwood to claim financial problems.
