Fire causes major barn damage

An early-morning fire destroyed a barn in rural Boone County, causing an estimated $500,000 to $1 million in damage. The blaze occurred just before 4 a.m. on a farm off State Road 75 just north of Advance. The fire set off several small explosions from propane tanks on two combines housed in the barn. No one was injured. The cause is unknown.

Crash injures 3 on northeast side

Indianapolis police are investigating a serious crash involving two vehicles at 52nd Street and Allisonville Road on the city's northeast side. Police say the driver of a red Cadillac SUV was traveling north on Allisonville when it crossed the center line and hit a white Ford SUV. Jamal Moore, 31, the driver of the Cadillac, told investigators he had been drinking earlier in the morning. His passenger, Joseph Reese, 34, of Indianapolis, was taken to Wishard Hospital in critical condition. Moore and the 27-year-old driver of the white SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Baby’s death ruled homicide

The Marion County coroner's office has ruled the death of a 6-month-old boy as a homicide. The coroner's office said Nygell Easter died from blunt-force trauma. The baby's father, who lives near 82nd Street and Craig Road on the northeast side, told police Monday his son fell off a bed while in a car seat. The father called 911 saying his baby was not breathing and unresponsive. Police say the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made so far.

Boy, 16, arrested on homicide charge

A 16-year-old Indianapolis boy was arrested Wednesday in connection with a homicide that occurred last October. Police apprehended Ronnie Arciga of Indianapolis at his home in the 6600 block of Chipping Court on the city’s northwest side. Authorities also recovered a semi-automatic handgun from Arciga’s bedroom. Police did not specify which homicide Arciga may have been involved in.

Local home construction plummets again
