The Warren Township School Board has voted to shut down Heather Hills and Morehead elementary schools at the end of the school
year as part of a plan to slash $4 million from the system’s budget. The board will vote April 1 on a redistricting
plan for the affected students. Forty jobs within the district, which is in eastern Marion County, will also be cut, including
many coaching positions.
Johnson County woman Katherine Brotherton, 36, faces two counts of animal abuse after admitting to police she set her two
dogs on fire. County Prosecutor Brad Cooper called the case extremely disturbing. She told police the dogs had been biting
her and thought it was the most humane way to kill them. The dogs are expected to recover from their burns. They were taken
to the Johnson County animal control shelter and may be put up for adoption.
A 30-year Pendleton police officer is off the job, possibly for letting an impaired driver stay on the road. Dashboard-camera
video shows patrolman Mike Moore pulling over a driver who failed sobriety tests, then apparently letting the man take his
car back on the road. Pendleton Police Chief Marc Farrer informed the town safety board last month that he had suspended Moore,
saying the officer jeopardized the town’s safety. The board meets again for a hearing Thursday requested by Moore after
the board moved to terminate him Feb. 25. Fox59 will have more at 4 p.m.
The Central Indiana Community Foundation has stopped payment on a $3 million grant to Junior Achievement because of accounting
questions.
Indiana University forecasters are sticking with their prediction of sustainable economic growth kicking into gear
this summer.
Victor George filed suit in federal court, alleging Junior Achievement failed to properly remit money to his retirement and
health-savings accounts.
