Sex offender accidentally released

May 13, 2010

Howard County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a jail inmate who was released by mistake Wednesday morning. When corrections
officers called for inmate Joseph Garrett to be released, another inmate in that jail pod, Reginald Garrett, answered the
call and was let out by mistake. Two corrections officers failed to check jail records before releasing the wrong Garrett,
according to Howard County Sheriff Marty Talbert. The released Garrett is an unregistered sex offender, and could face additional
charges of false informing and forgery.

Racing cars may have caused crash

May 13, 2010

Indianapolis police are investigating whether a 17-year-old driver was racing another car Wednesday afternoon when she hit
a curb and flipped her 1997 green Cavalier in an east-side field near the 1900 block of Hillside Avenue. Police say she was
driving at excessive speeds. All four occupants of the car were girls ages 16 to 18. Two were ejected in the crash, and the
other two were trapped. All were rushed to Methodist Hospital in critical condition, and since have been upgraded to stable
condition.

Brownsburg man dies in fire

May 13, 2010

Family members are mourning a Brownsburg man who was killed in an early morning fire Thursday in the 7200 block of Eagle Road.
Crews had to truck water into the neighborhood from a hydrant nearly a mile away to fight the heavy flames. Officials haven’t
released the name of the man, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. One firefighter is being treated for possible
smoke inhalation.

IBM says it is owed nearly $53 million in fees and equipment expenses under the 2006 contract. The state says in its lawsuit
that it has paid $437 million to IBM and has received “minimal value” in return.
