FDA gets new report on Lilly diabetes drug

Drugmakers Eli Lilly and Co. and Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Monday that patients taking their potential once-weekly diabetes treatment, Bydureon, saw a significant improvement in cardiovascular risk factors.

Authors and authors' groups sued the University of Michigan, Indiana University and three other universities Monday, seeking to stop the creation of online libraries made up of as many as 7 million copyright-protected books they say were scanned without authorization.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the pace of mortgage loan applications decreased 4.9 percent for the week ended Sept. 2, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. The rate for 30-year mortgages decreased to 4.23 percent from 4.32 percent the previous week. The rate for 15-year mortgages fell to 3.41 percent from 3.49 percent.

-The Marion County Community Correction Board leased 14,960 square feet at 140 E. Washington St. The tenant was represented by Rick Lux of R.P. Lux Co. The landlord, Sayles Enterprises LLC, was represented by Dan Richardson and Nick Svarczkopf of CB Richard Ellis.

-Allegient leased 11,500 square feet at Meridian Tower, 201 W. 103rd St. The tenant was represented by Mike Napariu of REI Investments CPA. The landlord, BPG Properties Ltd., was represented by Adam Broderick and John Robinson of Jones Lang LaSalle.

-CABOT Properties bought a 163,200-square-foot, multi-tenant warehouse at 2011-2121 Southtech Drive, Greenwood. The price wasn’t disclosed. The seller, RBA LLC, a joint venture of Browning Investments and Republic Development, was represented by J. Jeffrey Castell and Angela J. Wethington of Cassidy Turley. The buyer represented itself.

-Boehning Way LLC bought 1.5 acres of land at 2140 N. Boehning Way. The price wasn’t disclosed. The seller, GH Properties LP, was represented by Tracey Holtzman of Midland Atlantic. The buyer represented itself.

IBM’s supercomputer system, best known for trouncing the world’s best “Jeopardy!” players on TV, is being tapped by one of the nation’s largest health insurers to help diagnose medical problems and authorize treatments.

Man shot outside local restaurant

Indianapolis police are investigating an overnight shooting near 34th Street and Arlington Avenue that sent the victim to Wishard Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, who is in critical but stable condition, left The Point Restaurant & Lounge just before the shooting.

Apartments gutted by fire

September 12, 2011

A northwest-side apartment building was hit by two fires within 12 hours Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning. Guion Creek Apartments, in 5900 block of Guion Road, was heavily damaged by fires that occurred at 2 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday. No injuries were reported but at least six families have been displaced. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fires and whether they were related.

Man dies after crash into semi

September 12, 2011

A man died Monday morning when the Buick Skylark he was driving slid under the back of a semitrailer in the 2400 block of North Shadeland Avenue. Indianapolis police said the semi was just starting to pull forward at a traffic signal about 5:50 a.m. when the car ran into it. There were no skid marks at the scene to indicate the driver of the car tried to brake before impact. Police said they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
