West Elm, Free People join new Fashion Mall lineup
Simon Property Group has nabbed some big name, new-to-market tenants for its multi-million-dollar revamp of The Fashion Mall at Keystone.

-Burlington Coat Factory leased 70,000 square feet at a former WalMart store at 2575 E. Main St., Plainfield. The tenant was represented by Brad Gershman of Gershman Brown Crowley. The landlord, Tabani Group, was represented by Tom English and Larry Davis of Sitehawk Retail Real Estate.

Carmel named ‘Best Place to Live’
Carmel has been named the “Best Place to Live in America,” by Money magazine, the publication announced Monday morning in a ranking of the country’s best small cities. The city of 80,100 just north of Indianapolis was praised for its strong economy, affordable homes, low taxes, excellent schools, bike paths and the new performing arts center. Neighboring Fishers was the only other Indiana city on the list, ranking 12th.

Local distillers produce Indiana sorghum spirit
Two central Indiana entrepreneurs are making a new spirit from an old crop—supplied largely by an Amish farmer who doesn’t drink alcohol. The product is Sorgrhum, a distilled liquor made from the syrup of sweet sorghum, a stalk-like grain used as a sweetener before sugar cane became widely available.

Alph Bingham spent more than 28 years at Eli Lilly and Co. and from there co-founded InnoCentive Inc., a Massachusetts-based organization that organizes crowdsourcing to help companies solve internal challenges. The Carmel resident spoke about the challenges now facing pharmaceutical companies, which are buckling under ever-rising costs to develop drugs with lower rates of success and worsening prospects for reimbursement. Bingham’s solution is for pharma to embrace crowdsourcing and other “open innovation” concepts in order to spread the risk of R&D among more partners.
