Developer planning 70-acre real estate project in Tipton County

Officials in Tipton County are considering a plan for a multimillion-dollar mixed-use development along U.S. 31, about midway between Westfield and Kokomo.

The project would include at least one hotel, light industrial space and a travel plaza, among other features, according to the Kokomo Tribune reported.

The unnamed developer is seeking a rezoning of the more than 70-acre property at U.S. 31 and State Road 28 to a planned unit development, according to the publication. The project is also slated to feature a bank, a MedCheck, a recreational vehicle stopover, restaurants and a dog park.

Matt Skelton, an attorney representing the developer, said the project is estimated to cost about $50 million, although the final investment total is still being determined.

If the rezoning request is approved by the Tipton County Board of Commissioners, the project will still face future approvals, including an State Road 28 entrance approval from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Skelton said plans call for the project to take about one to two years to complete, but a timeline for groundbreaking is still undetermined.
