An opening date is set for the first Wawa convenience store and gas station in the Indianapolis area, the company announced Friday.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa Inc. will open May 22 at 5890 Midland Pointe Blvd on the west side of Noblesville.

The store is in the 34-acre Midland Pointe development at the southeast corner of State Road 32 and Hazel Dell Parkway. Midland Pointe is a joint venture between Indianapolis-based Secure Holdings LLC and Carmel-based Old Town Cos. LLC.

Wawa has more than 1,100 stores across nine states and Washington, D.C. The retail convenience stores offer built-to-order food such as hoagies and breakfast sandwiches, beverages, coffee drinks, and, in a majority of locations, gasoline.

In 2022, Wawa announced plans to expand into Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. And, in 2023, the company said it planned to invest $420 million to add 60 stores throughout Indiana over the next decade.

Wawa first broke ground on a store in Indiana last June at 3835 E. 96th St. in Indianapolis. The company plans to open up to 10 stores this year in Indiana. On Friday, Wawa also announced opening dates for stores in Daleville (May 15) and Clarksville (May 30). Last month, a Wawa store that was under construction near the intersection of State Road 267 and East County Road 700 North in Brownsburg was damaged in a fire.

Another Wawa store is currently under development in Noblesville at the southwest corner of East 146th Street and Howe Road. Wawa is planning to build a third convenience store in Noblesville at the southeast corner of State Road 37 and East 191st Street.

Wawa, founded in 1964, employs more than 45,000 people overall. Each store employs 35 workers on average.

To build each store, Wawa invests more than $7.5 million and employs an average of 140 contractors and local partners, according to a news release.

  1. There is also a Wawa being built at the SE corner of Mount Comfort Rd. (600W) and US 40 in the Cumberland/Greenfield area. I am surprised they didn’t mention this location.
