Toddlers placed in protective custody

Four toddlers were put in protective custody after a maintenance worker found them roaming the property at the Arbors at Cumberland Apartments in Indianapolis on Wednesday afternoon with no adult in sight. Police said the children, ages 2 and 3, were shoeless and half-dressed. Police went door-to-door at the complex but didn’t find their parents until they received a phone call Wednesday night. A man who was supposed to be watching the children apparently left without telling anyone. The mothers initially were placed in police custody but later were released. Charges of neglect might still be filed.

Towing complaint process outlined

Indianapolis on Thursday announced measures for reporting wrongful towing incidents and other towing code violations. The city approved a number of new towing related ordinances in August, including caps on fines and rules for signs in lots. Citizens can contact the Department of Code Enforcement via a dedicated hotline at (317) 327- 8697 or via e-mail at [email protected] to lodge complaints of predatory towing practices.

Music teacher charged in fatal arson

Indianapolis police have arrested a 62-year-old music teacher for allegedly starting a fire that killed her husband four years ago. Police said Gwendolyn Kirch, a teacher at St. Pius X Catholic School for 29 years, is responsible for a fatal arson on April 3, 2007. Her husband, 57-year-old David Kirch, died in the blaze. Kirch is charged with three counts of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson. Police are also seeking her son, Thomas Kirch, 26, who is also charged in the arson.

AM General to lay off 350 Indiana workers

Eastman Kodak Co. reportedly looked at relocating a 500-person research-and-development center to Indiana, but will instead stay put in Ohio, according to a company official.

Former City-County Councilor Lincoln Plowman had asked a judge to overturn his attempted extortion and bribery convictions after a jury found him guilty of the charges Sept. 15.

LA firm to oversee construction of city’s sewage tunnel

Aecom, a global firm that also is one of the companies rebuilding the World Trade Center site in New York City, designed the Deep Rock Tunnel Connector, the linchpin of a tunnel system the city will build to handle sewage overflows during rain storms.

State receives 24 more tort claims for stage collapse

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller’s office said the new notices boost to 45 the total number of tort claims received to date from victims of the deadly state fair stage collapse.
