Ballard wagers with New Orleans mayor

Mayor Greg Ballard is making the traditional Super Bowl bet with Mayor Ray Nagin, his counterpart in New Orleans. If the Indianapolis
Colts win, Ballard will receive some New Orleans jazz CDs and Mardi Gras beads. Nagin also will send “king cake,” a Mardi
Gras treat, along with beignets and coffee. If the New Orleans Saints win, Ballard will send shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo
Steak House, plus 10 dozen cookies from IndyAnna’s Catering, a platter from Judge’s BBQ, and two dozen tenderloins from Mug
‘n’ Bun.

Man dies after SUV plunges into icy pond

Investigators hope an autopsy will help determine what caused a man on Thursday to drive his Ford Explorer into an icy pond,
where he died. The vehicle went several hundred feet off Worthsville Road near U.S. 31 in Greenwood before plunging into a
frozen retention pond, according to witnesses. The SUV broke through the ice and sank in about 15 feet of water. Firefighters
pulled him out but were unable to save him. Fox59 will have more at 4 p.m.

The Republican-controlled Senate voted 29-19 Thursday for a bill that would eliminate township boards and transfer their duties
to the county level starting in 2013. It now moves to the Democrat-led House for consideration.

City of Greenwood might fund launch of insulin maker

Greenwood-based Zimmerman Biotechnologies LLC hopes to become the first company in the United States to make generic insulin,
a long-awaited development in diabetes treatment. The Greenwood Common Council on Feb. 1 will consider an $8.4 million deal
that would finance construction of an insulin factory, as well as help Zimmerman with FDA-approval and equipment expenses.
