Police probe carjackings, shooting

Indianapolis police are looking for suspects involved a shooting and two carjackings overnight. At about 1:40 a.m. Thursday, a man was shot along Marabou Mills Way near 34th and Dandy Trail, and nearby a gold Mercury Grand Marquis was carjacked. The shooting victim’s condition is unknown. Police say three men, including one armed with a silver handgun, are responsible. Those suspects are also sought for another carjacking on the city's northeast side at 2:50 a.m. A woman said her car was taken in the Hill Crest Apartments near Shadeland Avenue and Fall Creek Road North. She was not injured.

Officer runs light, crashes

An Indianapolis police officer was involved in a crash Wednesday night after driving through a flashing red light downtown. The officer was traveling north on Pine Street through the intersection at New York Street and crashed into an eastbound Jeep at about 11:30 p.m.. The officer was taken to Methodist Hospital for minor injuries. He tested negative for alcohol use. The driver of the Jeep was treated and released at the scene.

Missing IU student had confrontation

Missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer and a companion were involved in a confrontation with a group of young people less than two hours before she was last seen, an attorney for Corey Rossman says. Rossman was the last known person to be with Spierer, a 20-year-old sophomore, before she disappeared early in the morning on June 3.  Authorities began searching Lake Monroe on Wednesday afternoon with boats and sonar equipment and resumed the search Thursday morning. Spierer’s family is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.

Lilly wins ruling in dispute with Amylin over diabetes drugs

Eli Lilly and Co. won a ruling in a lawsuit brought by Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc., which wants to prevent Lilly from using the same people to sell Amylin’s diabetes drug and that of a competitor.
