Single-car accident claims life

A man in his early 20s died in an accident early Wednesday morning on the northwest side of Indianapolis. Police say the man was driving a white Chevrolet truck south on Grandview Drive about 3 a.m., when he ran into a piece of construction equipment in the 6600 block. The crash sent the vehicle off the road and into some trees, where it caught on fire.

Man dies after alleged drug deal

A 28-year-old man died Tuesday night on the near-north side of Indianapolis after police used a stun gun on him following an alleged drug deal. Two off-duty Marion County deputies said they saw Anton Butler, 28, involved in a possible drug deal inside a vehicle outside Bethel Townhomes, where they were working security. When they approached the vehicle, Butler put narcotics in his mouth and ran from the scene, the deputies said. The deputies chased down the suspect and used the stun gun on him during a struggle. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

City’s chief of staff to step down

Chris Cotterill, chief of staff to Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, plans to leave the administration and return to private business, sources told Fox59. City-County Councilman Ryan Vaughn will resign from his seat to replace Cotterill, the sources said. Cotterill, a former attorney for Barnes & Thornburg LLP, took over as chief of staff after the resignation of Paul Okeson in December 2009. He previously served as corporation counsel for the city and as general counsel for the state’s office of technology.
