A man died Tuesday night when he was ejected from his truck during an accident on Interstate 74 just east of Interstate 465 near Thompson Road. According to police, two men were inside a blue pickup truck when it crossed the eastbound lanes and flipped over the guard rail. The passenger, Larry Martin, was in stable condition with head and facial injuries. Police said alcohol is likely a contributing factor in the accident.
Indianapolis Animal Care & Control is so understaffed that it has a backlog of 700 unanswered runs and has an average response time of 13 days when called about a stray animal, department records show. "We cannot even come close to catching up, let alone be proactive to solve all the other animal-related issues with the amount of man power and limited resources we are allowed," control officer Doug Sanford said. The department employs 18 patrol officers to tackle the nearly 40,000 calls it receives each year. The department said volunteers are desperately needed.
All eastbound lanes on Interstate 865—the east–west connector between I-465 and I-65 northwest of Indianapolis—were closed for more than an hour after an accident Wednesday morning, causing severe traffic backups throughout the area. A car crossed the median into eastbound traffic and hit a van head-on. The man driving the car was seriously hurt. A male driver and two children in the van suffered less serious injuries.
Two ramps at Keystone Avenue and Interstate 465 on Indianapolis’ northeast side will be closed for seven to 15 days as part of an $18.2 million project to reduce traffic congestion in the area.
